Congratulations to Professor Javier Patiño Loira on Receiving the 2025-2026 UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award

Please join us in congratulating Professor Javier Patiño Loira on receiving the 2025–26 UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award.

Professor Javier Patiño Loira has been selected by the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center’s Distinguished Teaching Award Selection Committee to receive the 2025-2026 Distinguished Teaching Award for Senate Faculty, in the category Practice of Teaching. Professor Patiño Loira, an Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, is one of six awardees selected from a large field of nominees. This award recognizes faculty for their “creativity in the classroom, dedication to helping students thrive, and commitment to continually enhancing the educational experience.”

Professor Patiño Loira teaches a wide range of courses for the department, including “Ingenious Ecologies — Poetry, Nature, and Society in the 17th-Century Hispanic World,” “Embodied Minds: Love & Emotions in Early Modern Hispanic Literature & Science,” “Performing One’s Life in the 17th-Century Global Hispanic World,” “Imagining Community: The Faces of Utopia in the Early Modern Global Hispanic World,” and “Self-Fashioning and Interiority in Early Modern Spain.”
