Teo Ruiz, distinguished research professor emeritus of Spanish and Portuguese and of history, is one of four UCLA faculty members to receive the Edward A. Dickson Emeritus Professorship Award for 2023–24. The awards honor emeriti professors for outstanding research, scholarly work, teaching and service following their retirement. Professor Ruiz, who joined the UCLA faculty in 1998 and served as chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese in 2008-2009, has remained exceptionally active as a scholar and teacher since his retirement in 2019.
