Born in Colombia and raised in Mexico City, Rodrigo García is a celebrated award-winning director, producer and writer. A consistent figure in independent film over the last 20 years, Rodrigo has directed the multiple Academy Award®-nominated film, Albert Nobbs, starring Glenn Close, Mother and Child, starring Annette Bening, Naomi Watts and Samuel L. Jackson, Apple TV+’s Raymond & Ray, starring Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor, Nine Lives, and most recently Netflix’s Familia, starring Daniel Giménez Cacho and Maribel Verdú. He has also worked on numerous television shows. He will converse with Maarten van Delden, Chair of UCLA’s Department of Spanish & Portuguese, about his work in the film and television industry, his relationship with his father, Gabriel García Márquez, the recent Netflix series based on One Hundred Years of Solitude, and other topics.
