Assistant Adjunct Professor and Faculty Fellow Juliana Espinal was recently awarded the prize for best doctoral thesis in her field of specialization for the period 2019-2021 by the Asociación de Colombianistas. Dr. Espinal defended her dissertation, titled “De forma oblicua: representaciones de la violencia paramilitar en la Colombia del siglo XXI,” at UCLA in Spring 2021. The prize was announced at the XXII Congress of the Association, held from October 13-15, 2021. The department warmly congratulates Juliana and her dissertation committee chair, Professor Verónica Cortínez.
