On October 18, 2021, Professor Fuchs accepted the Ñ Award from the hands of King Felipe VI of Spain at the annual meeting of the Instituto Cervantes board of trustees in Madrid. The Ñ Award was created to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the foundation of the Instituto Cervantes, an entity created in 1991 to further the teaching of Spanish and Spain’s vernacular languages and to enhance the visibility of Spanish and Latin American cultures. The purpose of the Ñ award is to recognize individuals or legal entities who have promoted the Spanish language around the world. Professor Fuchs is the first person to receive the award. The ceremony received wide coverage in the Spanish press.
