Research
I am interested in Spanish as a heritage language (SHL) speakers and pedagogy, sociolinguistics, bilingualism, phonetics, and phonology. My research investigates the experiences of SHL speakers in the United States and how to better inform language instructors of their heritage students’ linguistic challenges, needs, and advantages in order to strategize on how to best support their students. Moreover, I am interested in the racialization of Spanish speakers in order to redress standard language ideologies that may influence speakers’ perceptions of language varieties.
