Research

I am interested in Latin American literatures, the history of literature, and the connections between cultural production and politics. My primary research focuses on Chilean literature from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. I am writing my dissertation on the legacy of Fernando Alegría (1918–2005), one of the most influential intellectuals of the Chilean 1938 generation. Professor Alegría was a distinguished writer and diplomat who influenced several generations in Latin America. My second research interest focuses on contemporary Brazilian literature, particularly the novels of Chico Buarque and Bernardo Carvalho. I have researched the themes of globalization and transatlantic relations in their works.
