Mexican Studies
The Mexican Studies Minor allows students to dive into the rich history, literature, and culture of Mexico. Given Southern California’s proximity to Mexico, the demographics of Los Angeles, and the shared history of Mexico and the Southwest, the minor is a natural complement to many majors, both in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese and across the university.
Courses in language, history, and politics form the core of the Mexican Studies Minor, while the flexible structure emphasizes interdisciplinary exploration. Students pursuing this minor are encouraged to tailor it to their interests and their broader educational plan through their choice of Mexico-focused courses in Anthropology, Ethnomusicology, Geography, Chicana/o Studies, and more.
