GOLONDRINA #1

For GOLONDRINA’s first session, we are delighted and honored to welcome the writer and professor José Luiz Passos.

José Luiz Passos is the author of five novels, a sci-fi novella, short stories and a play. He teaches creative writing, Brazilian fiction, and Comparative Literature at UCLA.

GOLONDRINA is a monthly creative writing workshop at UCLA that brings together visiting and campus-based writers and poets to mentor and challenge whoever joins the activity. Open to the entire UCLA community but centered on undergraduate students, GOLONDRINA offers a welcoming space to experiment with form, workshop drafts, and deepen craft across genres and languages.

Each session features a guest reader or instructor, a brief craft talk or prompt, and a facilitated workshop where participants share work and receive constructive feedback. The workshop is conducted in English, but participants are welcome to write in Portuguese, Spanish, or any other language. GOLONDRINA aims to strengthen writing skills and foster cross-cultural exchange rooted in Afro-Latin-American & Afro-Luso-Brazilian traditions.
