Assignments of Language Courses during the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters

The following language courses are offered throughout the year and are taught by TAs: i) SPAN 1, 2, 3, 4, 5; ii) SPAN 25 and 27; iii) SPAN 7A and 7B; iv) PORT 1, 2, 3, 11A, and 11B.

Selection criteria for SPAN 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5: i) All incoming TAs (Spanish Program) are expected to teach SPAN 1-3 during their first year teaching in the Department; ii) During their second year of teaching, TAs will be eligible to teach SPAN 4 & 5 and SPAN 25/27. Because there are fewer sections of SPAN 4 & 5 and SPAN 25/27, priority will be given to second-year TAs with higher teaching evaluation scores and strongest DLP observations. 

Selection criteria for SPAN 25 and SPAN 27: Appointments will be awarded on a competitive basis, considering the following elements: i) Previous teaching student evaluations; ii) DLP class observations; and iii) Experience with external pedagogical training (i.e. Writing Pedagogy) and/or other ongoing professionalization training (workshops, seminars, etc.).

Selection criteria for SPAN 7A and 7B: i) Only TAs with at least two years of teaching experience within the Department are eligible; ii) Must have taught SPAN 1, 2, or 3 at least once within the two years prior to appointment; iii) Must have completed a workshop on heritage language pedagogy offered regularly by the Department; iv) Appointments will be awarded on a competitive basis, considering the following elements: 1) Previous teaching student evaluations; 2) DLP class observations; and 3) Experience with external pedagogical training (i.e. CUTF, EPIC, etc.) and/or other ongoing professionalization training (workshops, seminars, etc.).

Selection criteria for PORT 1, 2, 3, 11A and 11B: i) All incoming TAs (Portuguese Program) are expected to teach PORT 1-3 during their first year teaching in the Department; ii) During their second year, TAs will be eligible to teach PORT 11A & 11B. Because sections of PORT 11A & 11B are limited, priority will be given to second-year TAs with higher teaching evaluations scores and strongest DLP observations.
