The Department is delighted to share the news that our colleague Professor Victoria Mateu was approved for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure, effective 07/01/2025. Professor Mateu joined the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UCLA in 2019, after receiving her PhD from the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Victoria is a specialist in language acquisition and syntax, focused on Spanish and in comparison, or in tandem with other languages. Her primary areas of interest and research are child language acquisition (monolingual and bilingual), heritage, and second language (L2) acquisition, morphosyntax, and language processing, word/morphological segmentation, and the insights that cross-linguistic and acquisition data provides. Congratulations to Victoria on her promotion!
