My area of interest is in Latin American literature of social criticism of the 20th century, with an emphasis on the literature of dictatorship. In this subgenre, which was born as a criticism of military dictatorships, the figure of the dictator is usually one of the most important. However, I am interested in studying the figure of “el favorito”, who is the one who helps the dictator to establish his government of terror and who is usually as ruthless as the tyrant. We find this character in dictatorship novels playing roles such as secretary, confidant, adviser, and clerk, among others.
